Bio

A longtime member of LA’s Troubadour Theater Company, Morgan may be best known to Troubie fans for creating the title role in Fleetwood Macbeth.  Other Troubie roles include: Old Man Potter in It’s a Stevie Wonderful Life, Horatio in Hamlet, the Artist Formerly Known as Prince of Denmark (Garland Award Honorable Mention), King Herod and Frankenstein in The First Jo-el (Ovation Nomination), Young Ebeneezer in A Christmas Carol King, The Duke in Two Gentlemen of Chicago, Antipholus of Ephesus in Comedy of Aerosmith, and The King in All’s Kool That Ends Kool.


Born and raised in Southern California, Mr. Rusler started acting at the tender age of 13 in the L.A. Parks and Recreation Department’s summer theater production of The Music Man playing Winthrop at La Verne College.

Continuing his acting career through High School he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater History from Whittier College and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the California Institute of the Arts.

After CalArts he spent 5 years with the now tragically defunct Hillside Repertory in Eagle Rock.  Of the more than 20 productions in which he performed, favorite roles include: Mozart in Amadeus; Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night; and Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls.

Other theater credits include: Edmund in GroveShakespeare’s award winning production of Long Days Journey Into Night, directed by Jules Aaron and starring Mitch Ryan and Salome Jens; Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet at A Noise Within;  Mary Barnes at the Odyssey Theater directed by Ron Sossi; Chebutykin in the mud-luscious theater ensemble’s The Three Sisters; and Brutus in the Classical Theater Lab’s Coriolanus.

At the Pasadena Playhouse: Einer in On Borrowed Time with Conrad Bains, directed by Sheldon Epps; Ellard in The Foreigner with Matt Walker; the dual roles of Lane and Merriman in The Importance of Being Earnest with Shirley Knight and Patrick Dempsey, directed by Sheldon Epps.  At the Laguna Playhouse: Leo Davis in Room Service and The Actor in The Woman in Black, both directed by Andrew Barnicle.  Boolie Werthan in McCoy Rigby’s production of Driving Miss Daisy with Michael Learned (Ovation Best Actor Nomination).  He also played Charlie Baker in The Foreigner for McCoy Rigby, a role he loved and later recreated at the Norris Theater in Palos Verdes. 

Morgan also appeared in the world premiere production of David Rambo’s The Spin Cycle with Marcia Rodd and Stephanie Zimbalist at the Rubicon Theater.  Paint Your Wagon, with a new book by David Rambo, was his first show at the Geffen Playhouse.  All My Sons soon followed with Len Cariou, Neil Patrick Harris and Laurie Metcalf (Ovation Award Best Play). 

Other Theater:  The World Premiere of Lewis and Clark Reach the Euphrates, in which he created 9 roles, by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan, directed by Gregory Boyd, and Nighthawks, directed by Stefan Novinski for the Center Theatre Group; and Around the World in 80 Days in which he created 17 roles, for the Colony Theater, directed by Stefan Novinski.  Morgan also won Best Ensemble awards for his performances in War Music at the Los Angeles Theater Center and A Servant to Two Masters for the International City Theater, both productions directed by Jessica Kubzansky. 

You can catch Morgan on the big screen in such notable films as Catch Me If You Can with Tom Hanks, directed by Steven Spielberg, Solaris with George Clooney, directed by Steven Soderberg, the cult classic Galaxy Quest with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell and Tony Shaloub, The Green Hornet with Seth Rogen, Easy A with Emma Stone and Friends With Benefits with Justin Timberlake, both directed by Will Gluck.  Director Tom Putnam has given Morgan starring roles in Shafted!, Tom Hits His Head, which garnered both the Spirit of Slamdance Award and the Aspen Shortsfest Grand Jury Prize, and Broadcast 23 which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

On television he has a recurring roles on AMC’s award winning Mad Men and TNT’s Animal Kingdom, he’s also enjoyed Guest Starring roles on Days of Our Lives, Big Shots, Charmed, Crossing Jordan, Touched By An Angel, Judging Amy, The Guardian and the very popular Firefly, to name just a few.

Morgan can also be sometimes seen and always heard in the video games Resident Evil 6, LA Noire and The Last of Us.
